How do I activate and set up my new SIM?

Choose the scenario that matches your needs and we’ll get you up and running quickly and easily:

I’ve just joined Vodafone on a new Pay monthly contract

Good news – you don’t need to activate your SIM as it should already be active

  1. Pop your SIM into your device and switch it on – see our device guides for instructions if you need guidance on how to do this
  2. Wait for your phone to display a signal and the Vodafone symbol – this can take up to 24 hours but is usually much quicker

Please note: if you’re a SIM only customer joining us from another network, you may need to request a Network Unlock Code (NUC) from your old provider to unlock your device before you can use it with us.

I’ve just joined Vodafone on Pay as you go

Good news – you don’t need to activate your SIM as it should already be active

  1. Pop your SIM into your device and switch it on – see our device guides for instructions if you need guidance on how to do this
  2. Wait for your phone to display a signal and the Vodafone symbol – this can take up to 24 hours but is usually much quicker

Please note: You’ll also need to top up your phone and make a chargeable call.

I’ve just upgraded and received a new SIM

If your old SIM fits your new device, then you can carry on using it and discard the new SIM we sent you.

If it doesn’t, complete the following to get your new SIM activated:

  1. Activate your new SIM using our online SIM swap tool
  2. Pop your new SIM into your device and switch it on – see our device guides for instructions if you need guidance on how to do this
  3. Wait for your phone to display a signal and the Vodafone symbol – this can take up to 24 hours but is usually much quicker

Please note: You can keep using your old SIM and device until you can’t make calls, send texts or use data on it − at that point you’ll know activation of your new SIM is complete. 

I’ve just received a replacement SIM as mine was lost, stolen or damaged

  1. Activate your new SIM using our online SIM swap tool
  2. Pop your new SIM into your device and switch it on – see our device guides for instructions if you need guidance on how to do this
  3. Wait for your phone to display a signal and the Vodafone symbol – this can take up to 24 hours but is usually much quicker

Please note: If you reported your phone as lost or stolen and you have no signal once SIM swap has completed, it may be that your SIM is still protected and blocked from use. Get in touch using the buttons to get this bar removed.

I’ve replaced my SIM for a different-sized one
