Why is sync speed measured - not download speed - as part of the Ultimate Broadband Guarantee?

We use sync speed – the speed from your exchange to your router – as the measurement for our Ultimate Broadband Guarantee because this is largely in the control of both us and the line provider. Throughput speed – the speed from your router to the devices in your home – is not within our control as it can be affected by various external factors, including the location of your router and the number of connected devices.

It’s normal for the sync speed to be different to the throughput speed that you see on your devices. It’s important to understand that when buying Vodafone Broadband, our Ultimate Broadband Guarantee covers the sync speed, and not the throughput speed on your devices.

While it’s possible to get great speeds over a Wi-Fi connection, connecting with an Ethernet cable will generally give a better result and speeds will be a lot less variable.
