Why is my broadband speed slow and how can I improve it?

Your broadband speed can be affected by a number of factors. Follow these steps to improve the speed of your home broadband:

Step 1: Your environment 

Check your router is plugged into the master socket – this is the main socket where the phone line enters your home.

If you have Gigafast Broadband, check your router is connected to the fibre connection box – this is the main socket where the fibre cable enters your home.

To prevent interference, your router should be at least one foot away from other electrical items and the wall.

Step 2: Your bandwidth
Switch off devices which aren’t in use to free up bandwidth – you can check which devices are in use in the Vodafone Broadband app

Step 3: Your Wi-Fi channels

Vodafone Wi-Fi has two frequencies, 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi has 13 channels that overlap. If there are too many connections on the same channel, your Wi-Fi will slow down. To change Wi-Fi channels, follow our FAQ guide
